IIBA Intern: Peter Skow

“By the end of the summer, I hope to learn more about IIBA’s fundraising efforts and how to craft a legal argument for a case,” says Peter. He connected with IIBA through the San Francisco Social Impact Internship Program at Dartmouth College, where he is an undergraduate student.

Peter has had the unique opportunity to assist both IIBA’s legal staff in Oakland and our communications team in San Francisco. Monday through Wednesday, he helps the Oakland office by translating documents, interpreting for clients, and compiling case files. He has worked on inadmissibility waiver applications, and has enjoyed coming to grips with the logic that underpins such cases, especially where it draws from clients’ humbling stories of personal struggle.

Thursdays and Fridays, he works with the San Francisco office to prepare materials for the IIBA’s hundredth-year celebration.  He has handled a great deal of the organization’s history in the form of newspaper clippings and photographs. The evolution of immigration and immigrant advocacy in the Bay Area encapsulated by those pieces of the past fascinates him.

IIBA is delighted to have Peter on board as a summer intern and is thankful for all the volunteers and interns that help make our work possible.
