Safety Network
In 2000, the International Institute in San Francisco was asked to join a city-wide collaboration that worked in the City's toughest neighborhoods through 12 police districts to promote civic participation and generate resident involvement in efforts to improve community policing. We agreed to take responsibility for efforts in the South of Market, and in 2005, we added the Tenderloin to our job.
The mission of the Safety Network is to organize and engage local residents and community members in developing and advocating for sustainable grassroots strategies to improve public safety, and make San Francisco's neighborhoods safer places to live, work and play.
The Safety Network Partnership believes that those who are most affected by public safety issues are the ones who are most capable of developing solutions. As a result, our partnership utilizes Community Organizers to provide support and to build the capacity of residents and businesses in neighborhoods to improve their public safety. Whether advocating at City Hall with policymakers, or facilitating community meetings around specific issues, our organizers utilize a variety of community building techniques to ensure that neighborhoods have the resources and support that they need to create safer environments in which to live.
