What is the basic info I need to know about YouthCares?
A job at YouthCares means:
-Working 3 days a week after school (One day of training and two days at program sites)
-Earning San Francisco's minimum wage
-Gaining job experience and new skills to help you achieve your future goals
-Working with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and languages.
What will my job responsibilities at YouthCares be?
YouthCares offers youth two positions: Peer tutoring and working with senior citizens.
Peer Tutoring:
At YouthCares Partners in Learning, you work at Newcomer High School, a school in the Inner Sunset for students who have just immigrated to this country. You will help students with their homework and teach them lessons about life in this country: how to get around SF, how to go to the hospital, college in the US, voting, housing, and other important topics. If you are interested in meeting people from all around the world, helping your community, and mentoring people your age, this job could be for you!
Working with Senior Citizens:
At YouthCares Intergenerational, you work with senior citizens in different classes around the city. You will be a Teaching Assistant with professional instructors in programs such as ESL, art, and exercise. All youth who work for YouthCares Intergenerational are also required to work at our Thursday food bank in the Richmond district. If you are interested in getting to know senior citizens from around the world, helping your community, and gaining teaching skills from professionals, this job could be for you!
What will I gain from working at YouthCares?
By working at YouthCares (either paid or volunteer), you can expect to gain:
-Job experience and the skills you need to apply for other jobs in the future
-Leadership, communication, public speaking, and teambuilding skills
-Teaching and group facilitation skills
-Training on important topics like college, financial literacy, immigration, and careers.
-Experience working with people of different languages, cultures, and ages
-Support from your co-workers and supervisor
How do I apply to work at YouthCares (as a volunteer or for a paid job)?
Follow these easy steps:
- Make sure you have read through all of the information on our website.
- Decide if you want to apply for YouthCares Partners in Learning (peer tutoring) or YouthCares Intergenerational (working with senior citizens).
- Apply through our online YouthCares application form and mail or fax the recommendation form. OR, download the YouthCares application and the Recommendation form and complete and submit them both by mail or fax.
- If you are contacted by YouthCares staff for an interview, come to the YouthCares office when you are scheduled.
- We are currently NOT accepting applications due to budget cuts, please check back for future updates.
